Infrastructure Needs and Optimisation Assessment

The Infrastructure Needs and Optimisation Assessment, prepared for the MRFH, focuses on improving the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of the region’s freight and haulage network that supports its 170,000-hectare softwood plantation estate and major processing facilities across NSW and Victoria. The report identifies $118.8 million in priority road infrastructure upgrades and highlights opportunities to enhance transport productivity through the use of High Productivity Vehicles (HPVs) and performance-based standards. It also emphasizes the importance of strategic road and logistics investments to sustain the $3.8 billion regional forest and wood products industry, reduce emissions, and minimise heavy vehicle interactions with other road users. Together, the studies provide a strong evidence base for government and industry planning to support sustainable forestry expansion and infrastructure optimisation in the Murray Region.
